Our chinchilla is quite the chewer. She ate through the middle of this wheel in less than one week so it falls off everytime she gets on. She also prefers to get behind it, same a her last wheel, and ends up bending it forward. -- not a good deal for our chinchilla
The wheel is made for chinchillas and the instructions say you can take it from the mount and attach it directly to their cage. Unfortunately, it's simply too wobbly. Chinchillas are highly skittish animals and as soon as they felt it wobble, they were done with it. This is rather unfortunate, because normally my little ones LOVE wheels and we wanted to get them one that wasn't so noisy.
I'm sure it's fine if you leave it on the stand and use it for smaller critters, but for chinchis, it's a no-go. -- Too Wobbly For Intended Use
My girl rats love this wheel. When I had 2, they used to run side by side, it was quite adorable. Now my one girl runs half the night on it. It's not quiet, it rattles quite loudly (mine is attached to the cage wall). I don't mind, the cage is right at the foot of my bed and I actually can't sleep without her noises, including the wheel. Now if it squeaked, that would be a different story. It seems to be very durable. I don't take mine out of the cage to clean, only the inside gets dirty since it's raised off the floor, so I just wipe it out.
My boy rats have had different opinions on it. One big boy liked to waddle on it, sometimes even getting up to a run for a few steps! (It was much much quieter going at a walking speed) The other ran on it after I put it in for the first time, as if to prove he could, and has since ignored it completely.
I've only used it off the wall (on the stand) once and it seemed very stable, but that was with the waddler, not the speed racers.
Overall I really like this wheel. There might be a quieter wheel out there (I've head good things about the wodent wheels), but I figure anything that big, moving that fast is going to be loud. It's safe, sturdy, and the girls love it, I don't need anything more.
I've used the smallest one for mice and they love it too, and it's quiet. -- Wonderful wheel, but loud
I have a semi-obese chinchilla that desperately needed a wheel in her cage. While she despises exercise, she does use the wheel occasionally and it is both quiet and sturdy unlike many other wheels I have purchased before. I would highly recommend this product. -- Great for chinchillas!
I've had both a comfort wheel and a silent spinner for my hedgehog. The comfort wheel, with a scrunchie tied around the back, is quieter than the silent spinner. The silent spinner broke only a few months after we got it, but the comfort wheel has lasted almost two years before it got to the point of replacing. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase. -- Silent with modification, durable
